Offering this good-condition used 836A transaxle case, cover, and internal mechanical parts for someone who needs to repair an 801-003 (A & B), 801-038 & -038A, 801-039 & -039A, 801-060 & -060A, 806, 806A-through-G, 840 or 840A 5-speed transaxles in a Deere front-engine lawn tractor. It can also be used for Deere Transaxle Part Numbers AM104441, AM104533, AM104573, AM106699, AM801060 and MIA10320. These transaxles were used in Deere 111, 116, 160, 165, 170, 175, 180, LX170, LX172, LX173 and LX188 riders and lawn tractors.
NOTE: As of April 2023, a new transaxle like this became obsolete from both Peerless Gear and John Deere. At that time, Deere had an $1,865.77 MSRP (P/N MIA10320).
Specs for this 836A transaxle are: In-line-shift, gear-drive, "Made-in-the-USA" 5-Forward-speed (+ Neutral and Reverse) Model 836A Peerless transaxle has the 5/8"-diameter x 1-3/16" tall input shaft with keyway and snap-ring groove. It also has the 3/4"-diameter axle shafts and the short (5/8"-tall), twin-flat-end shift shaft as shown. The axle-end keyways were bad, so I cut the axles off to make shipping easier. You can use your own axles.
The case has industry-standard mounting holes on 13" side-to-side centers x 1-3/4" front-to-back centers; these holes accept either 5/16" or 8mm bolts. The axle-housing ends are also rounded to accept the U-bolt saddle-style clamps.
For the technically-minded bidder, the Forward-shift gear ratios are: 1st) 2.33:1; 2nd) 1.50:1; 3rd)1.00:1; 4th) 0.79:1; and 5th) 0.67:1. Input pinion ratio is 3.00:1; final-drive/differential ratio is 6.69:1; Reverse ratio is 2.00:1.
The 836A was originally equipped for a left-side brake. I am including a new right-side brake shifter-brake shaft and new shift keys so this will be compatible with the Deere transaxles.

FEEDBACK: Our Feedback is 100%, which is good. The latest Feedback, however, is in December of 2011, which may raise questions. The reason for this is because we had to drop PayPal as an Approved Payment Method in our Store due to eCrater’s restrictions, and the only way Feedback can be left is if we show PayPal as an Approved Payment Method and the Buyer pays with PayPal through the eCrater Checkout. For this reason, there are no Feedbacks since December of 2011, even though we’ve had hundreds of satisfied customers since then. If you would like to get a referral from a recent customer near you, please let us know. We have nothing to hide, and your satisfaction is our priority.
