Offering this new replacement Heavy-Duty Peerless 855-006 Series transaxle for $695.00 that will fit most PermaGreen (R) Magnum and Triumph units originally equipped with the 855-001 transaxle. (For Centri and Ultra units, see my MST 206-549B Ad.) This transaxle is factory-lubricated, ready to bolt-in and run.

This in-line-shift, gear-drive, new-in-box Model 855-006 Series replacement Peerless transaxle has the horizontal 3/4"-diameter x 2-3/4" long input shaft. It has 1"-diameter axle shafts with full-length keyways, threaded 1"-8 USS coarse threads on the ends; the axles are unthreaded for approximately 4" and threaded for the outer 1-5/8". The overall end-to-end axle length is approximately 29"; the axle ends extend out from the case approximately 5-5/8" on each side.

On Perma-Green (R) units, since these axles have threaded ends instead of snap-ring grooves, you will need to hold the wheels on with two jam nuts, as shown in the 4th picture -- the nuts are included with the transaxle. Tighten the nuts against each other to allow a slight amount (0.010"-0.015") of side-play clearance of the thrust washers and hub against the axle bearing inside the housing. DO NOT use just one nut and tighten it against the wheel hub or you will damage the differential inside.

It has the short, square-end shift shafts with new shift arms included, as shown. (If the R-N-1-2 PermaGreen [R] shift arm is different from this one, you can remove this one and install yours.) It includes a new screw-terminal neutral-safety switch, as shown. It also includes a new case breather (remove the breather-hole plug the transaxle is shipped with and install the breather prior to installation). It does not include new wheel hubs or a new input pulley, like the PermaGreen (R) transaxle does -- these should be able to be removed and re-used from the original transaxle.

If rust and corrosion prevents you from removing the wheel hubs or input pulley, and you also need hubs or the pulley, see my other Listings. I also have the Shaft Hardware Kit for the wheel hubs which includes the keys, spacers and washers -- this Kit sells for $18.50.
Hardware Kit ASSEMBLY NOTEs:
1. The Hardware Kit has two thick 1"-ID spacers and two thin 1"-ID washers. The 1/4"-thick spacers go against the case housing, inside of the wheel hubs; the thin washers go outside the wheel hubs, just inside the inner jam nut.
2. When fitting the thick spacers, check around the axle bearings, inside the axle housing, for excess gray RTV that might prevent the spacers from butting against the bearings. If excess RTV is found, CAREFULLY remove it with a small pocket knife or similar tool so as not to damage the bearing seals.

This transaxle has industry-standard mounting holes on 15-3/8" side-to-side centers x 2-1/2" front-to-back centers. The top-case engine-mount holes are on 3-1/8" side-to-side centers x 6-3/8" front-to-back centers. MOUNTING NOTE: The four engine-mount post holes above the gear-cluster end are pre-threaded to accept 5/16"-18 USS (coarse) bolts; the two transaxle-support post holes at the axle end of the housing are not threaded and are on 3-1/8" centers. The OEM uses self-threading bolts to hold the transaxle supports. If you are re-using your original bolts or equivalent OEM bolts, make sure they have clean threads when re-installing these supports. If you do not have the original-style bolts and are using standard machine-thread bolts for these front-corner supports, you will need to carefully tap these holes to match the threads of your bolts.

The standard 855-001 Series transaxle Peerless makes for PermaGreen (R) has TWO Forward speeds -- the ratios are 3.08:1 for 1st and 2.33:1 for 2nd. This replacement 855-006 transaxle has THREE Forward speeds -- 3.08:1 for 1st (the same as the standard 855-001s), 2.13:1 for 2nd (just slightly faster than standard), and 1.50:1 for 3rd (faster yet for transport purposes). It also has Neutral and 1.40:1 Reverse.
CHEMICAL APPLICATION NOTE: If you have your unit calibrated to apply chemicals according to your original 2nd-gear ground speed, you will need to recalibrate your application rate 9% more than what it is set now, since the 2.13:1 ratio of 2nd gear in this transaxle is 1.09 x faster that the 2.33:1 ratio of the 2nd gear in the original 855-001.

This transaxle also has the optional differential lock, something the PermaGreen (R) transaxle does not have. The differential lock is spring-loaded in the disengaged position -- you have to move the second lever toward the axle to lock the differential. If you wish to use this feature, you need to install a control that will allow you to engage the lock. The hole at the end of the differential-lock lever moves 3/4" from Disengage to Engage.

TRIUMPH NOTE: Some Triumph models, especially the late-models using an 855-001D transaxle, have a drum mounted on the short splined shaft extending outside the case on the side opposite the input pulley. See Photos 5 & 6. If your PermaGreen uses this drum, this 855-006 transaxle will not work for your application unless you figure out how to make your unit work without the drum, as the 855-006 does not have the short splined shaft (See Photo 1).

CORROSION PREVENTION NOTE: Some customers have asked if we have any way to prevent corrosion on these new transaxles, something that's difficult to do on a PermaGreen unit. Other customers have told us that spray truck-bed liner works. A good locally-available aerosol product is also RustOleum® LeakSeal Flexible Rubber Coating in Black, Part Number 265494, BarCode 0 20066 21874 4. Whatever you use, just make sure to cover any movable linkage parts so the coating doesn't hinder proper movement of necessary components.

NOTE: There is NO warranty if this transaxle is used for competition purposes! A dated receipt will be provided to validate the warranty, dated to reflect its arrival at your place so you won't lose warranty coverage for travel time. Note that the warranty covers defects in material and workmanship -- it is not a blanket guarantee against abuse and mistreatment.
