This transaxle replaces the Peerless MST 206-508, -508A & -508B, the 920-002, 930-055 & -055A, the 930-057 & -057A; and Peerless/Sears 794428, 794602(A), 794691, 108868 (Y) and 145602.
FOOTE / DANA / SPICER Notes:
1. This transaxle can also be used to replace Spicer 4360-Series transaxles used in Sears-Craftsman mowers: It is a bolt-in replacement for the 4360-128, 4360-140 and the 4360-180, and I have been told by other Buyers that it will also replace the 4360-139 and the 4360-122. If you have another 4360-Series Spicer transaxle you might like to replace with this transaxle, compare the dimensions of your transaxle to the dimensions given below.
2. If you will be using this transaxle to replace a 4360-xxx Spicer and you have a fender-mounted shifter, you will also need a Shift-Link Kit to replace the Spicer shift-link components with Peerless-compatible parts. (If your shifter is on the floorboard between your legs, you won't need the Shift-Link Kit.) This Kit normally sells for $18.00 separately; I sell it for $12.00 with the purchase of a transaxle. Instructions are included with the kit.
3. Spicer quit the mower drivetrain business in March of 2012, so Spicer transaxles and parts are extremely rare at this point, if available at all.
NOTE to UK Countach and Westwood ride-on mower owners: This transaxle will also replace the MST 206-526C -- everything on the 206-526 is identical to the 206-545 except the brake arm lever. If you want this transaxle to replace a 206-526, let me know and I will install the correct brake arm lever before I ship it to you.
This upgraded, in-line-shift, gear-drive, new-in-box 6-speed Model MST 206-545C Peerless replacement transaxle was originally manufactured to fit AYP/EHP/FHP-made Sears/Craftsman, Poulan and Husqvarna riding mowers and lawn tractors, and supercedes the original 930-057 & -057A Series transaxle. It has a 5/8"-diameter x 1-3/16" tall input shaft with keyway and snap-ring groove, 3/4"-diameter axle shafts with keyways and snap-ring grooves on the ends, and the short, square-end shift shaft as shown. The overall end-to-end axle length is approximately 29-1/8"; the axle ends extend out from the case approximately 4-11/16" on each side. The case has two sets of industry-standard mounting holes -- the close-together holes are on 13" side-to-side centers x 1-3/4" front-to-back centers; the far-apart mount holes are on 16-1/4" x 2-1/2" centers.
Some original 206-545Cs or Dana/Spicer 4360s may have a brake arm return spring -- if yours has this spring, transfer it to this brake when you receive the transaxle.
The "upgraded" part of this transaxle is the heavy-duty needle-bearing option installed on the ends of the axle shafts, inside the housing. These reduce the friction of the axle running inside the normal case bushings compared to a regular 206-545C, allowing for better longevity and durability. This upgrade was done by a Peerless Master Technician at an Authorized Peerless Service Center, and reassembly was blueprinted at the same time. Other 206-545Cs available on the internet do not have this upgrade.
Being new, this transaxle is covered by the Peerless 2-year Consumer Use/90-day Commercial Use/30-day Rental Use Limited Warranty within the USA and the 1-year Consumer/90-day Commercial/30-day Rental Limited Warranty outside the USA. A dated receipt will be provided to validate the warranty, dated to reflect its arrival at your place so you won't lose warranty coverage for travel time. Note that the warranty covers defects in material and workmanship -- it is not a blanket guarantee against abuse and mistreatment. A copy of the Peerless Warranty will also be included with the transaxle.
The Part Number for a standard MST 206-545C is 794691. MSRP on a 794691 transaxle with the axle-bearing option would be $421.15; my price makes this new upgraded transaxle available to you at a 23% discount!
CAUTION: Attempting to buy one of these transaxles from the mower seller's direct parts website may not get you what you need. If you do happen to get an MST 206-545C, it will not have the axle needle-bearing upgrade. It might even be an older-series authorized substitution for your 206-545 transaxle. It could be a leftover Spicer 4360-Series transaxle, and it may even be a remanufactured unit. I recently serviced one of these transaxles for a customer; it had a stick-on tag on the back of the transaxle that clearly states "...Reconditioned". With my transaxle, you can be confident that you are getting exactly what this Ad describes in a brand-new, fully-warranted, upgraded transaxle.
This transaxle is an improved replacement for the Peerless 920/930-Series transaxles (the MST reverse mechanism is gear-drive instead of chain-&-sprockets). With its industry-standard mounting holes, it can replace a variety of Peerless or Dana/Spicer transaxles used on Sears riding mowers and others. Simply compare the dimensions listed above to the dimensions of your transaxle.
MOUNTING NOTE: The holes on the lower-front corners of the transaxle are not threaded, since the mower manufacturer uses 5/16"-18 self-threading bolts to hold the front support(s) to these corners. If you are re-using your original bolts or equivalent OEM bolts, make sure they have clean threads when re-installing these supports. If you do not have the original-style bolts and are using standard machine-thread bolts for these front-corner supports, you will need to carefully tap these holes to match the threads of your bolts. WARNING: If you plan on pre-tapping these holes, the case material is only about 0.060" (1/16") thick at the back of these holes, so measure the hole depth and set your tap accordingly, or you will break through the case into the gear-lube area.
For the technically-minded bidder, the Forward-shift gear ratios are: 1st) 2.64:1; 2nd) 2.07:1; 3rd)1.30:1; 4th) 0.90:1; 5th) 0.67:1; and 6th) 0.60:1. Input pinion ratio is 2.31:1, and final-drive/differential ratio is 9.89:1.
DO NOT ATTEMPT TO USE THIS TRANSAXLE AS-IS ON A REAR-ENGINE RIDER (where the transaxle is mounted with the input pulley, brake and shift arm BEHIND the axle) or you will have 1 forward speed and 6 reverse speeds.
QUESTIONS? Please -- if you are attempting to use this transaxle to replace a different transaxle -- before you ask a "Will-it-fit?" question, compare the measurements of your transaxle to the dimensions I have listed above for this transaxle, and note the Model and Serial Numbers off your current transaxle. Yes, that may require safely jacking up your mower, removing a wheel, then crawling under the mower with a scale, tape measure, flashlight and notepad, as well as a rag to carefully clean off dirt and grease.
This would give you the dimensions of your transaxle. However, if your mower does have an MST-Series transaxle, there will be a white vinyl sticker on the back of the transale with the transaxle Model Number on it. If it has the older 930-Series transaxle, the Model Number will be on a small (1/2" high x 1-1/8" long) aluminum tag on the right side of the transaxle between the brake disc and the axle housing. You may need to carefully clean off some dirt and grease to read the numbers.
