Offering this new Heavy-Duty 5-Forward-speed-plus-Neutral-&-Reverse 820-003B transaxle with full factory warranty at a 20% discount off Peerless MSRP. (I don’t know what the OEM MSRP is for this transaxle.) This transaxle is factory-lubricated, ready to bolt-in and run.
This in-line-shift, gear-drive, new-in-box 5-speed Model 820-003B Peerless transaxle is a bolt-in replacement for Scag units that use this particular transaxle.
This is also an exact replacement transaxle for the 5-speed 820-008, -008A & -008B used on Bunton units, except this transaxle has a different brake lever. Please let me know if you want to use this to replace the 008, as I will have to install the correct brake lever.
This will also replace the 6-speed 820-007 (A-B) and 820-015 (A-B) transaxles used on some Ferris commercial walk-behind mowers, but this 820-003B is a 5-speed transaxle and the gear ratios are slightly different. Ratio comparisons are:
Model..... 1st 2nd 3rd 4th 5th 6th
820-003 3.08 2.33 1.50 1.00 0.79 x
820-007 2.33 1.78 1.50 1.17 1.00 0.61
820-015 2.33 1.78 1.50 1.17 1.00 0.79
This transaxle can also be used to upgrade mowers that use the lighter-duty 814 or 801-015 transaxles, but you would also need wheel hubs with 1" bore to fit the 1" axles on this transaxles. For those who want to upgrade their mower and use this heavy-duty transaxle on a unit that originally had 3/4" axles, I can also supply wheels and hubs with 1" axle bores -- they are in my other Ads.
You will also need a different pulley, as the 814/801 has a 5/8"-diameter input shaft and the 820 has a 3/4"-diameter input shaft. I can also supply this pulley, if you let me know the diameter of your original pulley.
SHIFTER NOTE: When using this 820 transaxle to replace an 814 or 801-015, please note the shift-shaft position difference as shown in Photos 2 & 3. The shift-shaft center on the 820 is approximately 1-1/4" closer to the short axle and 7/16" farther away from the input shaft center, so you will need to slightly adjust or modify your shift linkage.
This transaxle has the 3/4"-diameter x 1-3/16" tall input shaft with keyway and snap-ring groove. It has 1"-diameter axle shafts with keyways and snap-ring grooves on the ends; the overall end-to-end axle length is approximately 39"; the axle ends extend out from the case approximately 4-5/8" on the brake side and 14-3/4" on the side opposite the brake. It has the 1/2"-diameter x 7/8"-tall, square-top shift shaft as shown.
This transaxle has two sets of industry-standard mounting holes: The close-together holes are on 13" side-to-side centers x 1-3/4" front-to-back centers; the far-apart mount holes are on 16-1/4" x 2-1/2" centers. These are the same mount-hole dimensions used on the 801-Series transaxles. MOUNTING NOTE: The front-support brace holes on the lower-front corners of the transaxle and the side-bracket holes are not threaded, since the mower manufacturer uses 5/16"-18 self-threading bolts to hold their supports to these holes. If you are re-using your original bolts or equivalent OEM bolts, make sure they have clean threads when re-installing these supports. If you do not have the original-style bolts and are using standard machine-thread bolts for these front-corner supports, you will need to carefully tap these holes to match the threads of your bolts. WARNING: If you plan on pre-tapping these holes, the case material is only about 0.060" (1/16") thick at the back of these holes, so measure the hole depth and set your tap accordingly, or you will break through the case into the gear-lube area.
For the technically-minded bidder, the Forward-shift gear ratios are: 1st) 3.08:1, 2nd) 2.33:1, 3rd) 1:50:1, 4th) 1.00:1 and 5th) 0.79:1. Input pinion ratio is 2.54:1, final-drive/differential ratio is 8.02:1, and Reverse is 2.00:1. Other gear ratios are available for this transaxle -- I can change ratios or convert this to a close-ratio transaxle, if you need it.
The Part Number for a standard 820-003B is 794505. Current MSRP from Peerless on this 794505 transaxle would be $873.00 FOB Indiana; my price makes this new upgraded transaxle available to you for 80% of Peerless retail!
This transaxle is a 'B'-Input transaxle, designed for use on a unit that has the gear cluster, input shaft, shifter and brake BEHIND the axle. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO USE THIS TRANSAXLE AS-IS ON A FRONT-ENGINE RIDER (where the 'A'-Input transaxle is mounted with the gear cluster, input pulley, brake and shift arm AHEAD OF the axle) or you will have 1 Forward speed and 5 Reverse speeds.
Being new, this transaxle is covered by the Peerless 2-year Consumer Use/90-day Commercial Use/30-day Rental Use Limited Warranty within the USA and the 1-year Consumer/90-day Commercial/30-day Rental Limited Warranty outside the USA. NOTE: There is NO warranty if this transaxle is used for competition purposes! A dated receipt will be provided to validate the warranty, dated to reflect its arrival at your place so you won't lose warranty coverage for travel time. Note that the Peerless Warranty covers defects in material and workmanship -- it is not a blanket guarantee against abuse and mistreatment. A copy of the Peerless Warranty will also be included with the transaxle.

QUESTIONS? I will check this Ad regularly and try to answer all Questions promptly. Please -- before you ask a "Will-it-fit?" or "Will it work?" question -- compare the measurements of your transaxle to the dimensions I have listed above for this transaxle, and note the Model and Serial Numbers off your current transaxle. Yes, that may require safely jacking up your mower, removing a wheel, then crawling under the mower with a scale, tape measure, flashlight and notepad, as well as a rag to carefully clean off dirt and grease. In your "Question," also include the Model and Serial Number off the mower. In your Question, also include your email address so we can keep all our necessary correspondence in one document for less-confusing record-keeping. A Question without a valid, Replyable email address may not be answered! Thanks!
